JFK MEDICAL CENTER

JFK Medical Center became the first hospital in the Northeast to have a 100% LED interior lighting. This project scope of work included the LED upgrade of the entire hospital, totaling more than 10,000 fixtures in over 420,000 square feet of space.

The primary driver for the project was to reduce peak KVA demand to delay a multi-million-dollar electrical substation upgrade.

Pearl Street developed and supplied cost effective LED lighting upgrade measures, utilizing state of the art LED technologies and maximizing the available utility incentives (over $200,000). Installation was performed by JFK’s staff and Pearl Street provided field technical support throughout the project.

Economic payback for the project was less than 2 years, saving over $250,000 annually in electricity costs.

A total peak demand reduction of over 500 KVA will allow the hospital to defer upgrading their substation for the next several years. The project has virtually eliminated lighting maintenance and has freed up the staff for more important tasks. The hospital’s lighting is now greatly improved has received praise from doctors, staff, patients and visitors.
