RARITAN BAY MEDICAL CENTER

This design-supply project consisted of the upgrade of 225 HID existing fixtures with new high efficiency LED fixtures. Pearl Street performed the design and furnished all equipment, while the in-house maintenance staff performed the installation under the direction of Pearl Street.

The new fixtures were equipped with integrated motion sensors that dim the light output and reduce energy consumption during periods of inactivity. The garage interior fixtures along the perimeter utilized integrated photocells to reduce light output when sufficient daylight was present, saving energy during the day. Light levels more than doubled from the previous design, improving both safety and security of the garage. The top deck pole lights were equipped with optical shields to reduce glare and light trespass on to adjacent residential properties. Lastly, the new clean white color temperature was a significant improvement over the previous yellowish/orange light.

In terms of energy savings and financial payback, this project was a true winner.

Energy consumption was reduced by 77%, saving over $30,000 annually. The project received a utility efficiency rebate of $25,000 to help defray the initial capital cost. Overall, the economic payback of the project was an outstanding 2.5 years. In addition, the hospital has virtually eliminated all lighting maintenance activities for the next 15 or more years! And this has allowed the skilled hospital facilities workforce to focus on more critical maintenance items rather than changing out light bulbs and ballasts.
